Warning: This article has a few spoilers about the film 2012, do not read beyond this statement if you do not want any of the plot to be ruined. This article is basically my disagreement with a friend who recently blogged about the film, just two friends with different opinions about a movie that we may have over analyzed in the first place. If you decided to continue to read, please read his article first at his website Here to fully understand the argument, none the less there is some valid points in just how I believe the world works.
I’m going to break it down with what I don’t agree with. So let’s first start off with the politics he attacked. Everything he mention that he says is politics isn’t in fact politics. His main argument was the character Carl Anheuser who eventually becomes president. All his decisions in the movie had nothing to do with politics in the lease way. Everything he did even though it was bad judgment was all part of human nature to survive. The first instinct of any animal including people is to survive at all cost, with a few who actually think about others as well. All he wanted to do is survive and he did what he thought was necessary for himself, you kind of notice that when every time someone is late he’s like fuck them lets go.
To get this next point out of the way real quick is his statement about the wealthy. They were not the only people chosen to survive the end of the world. This isn’t politics either, this is business. You want to build 3 giant ships; you’re going to need money. So what did they do, they went to the wealthy people and asked them for a billion dollars each and in the end for their donation they get to survive the end of the world. Such things have nothing to do with the government, this is the way the world works, money is everything. Just to point something out, each of those ships could at lease hold let’s say half a million each, and there’s probably a total of 200 people in the world that could even afford to pay a billion dollars each. They choose the people who where best to repopulate the world they just didn’t bother to show them on screen.
Last but not lease is his your point about keeping the end of the world a secret. Now I completely agree with how the government does this on a daily. I’m sorry to say, the day one of the world leaders goes on television and announces to the world that the end is coming; this is what’s going to happen. First there will be a brake down of social services, then rioting and the worse, mass religious historia. Basically humanity will end the world before the planet gets to squish us and we already got people blowing up buildings in the name of god, let’s not push them any further. If a few people got to die to keep the world from destroying its self then so be it. The truth isn’t always the best way, the possible best way would be to tell the world or at least the most important in the must discrete way. Danny Glover had a great idea. A Lottery, which probably would have worked perfectly. Selects a few million and escorts them to the ships as secretively as possible without alerting the media.
The best thing about death is not knowing when it’s going to happen. Adrian Helmsley said in the movie, “don’t the people have the right to know”, to me hell fucking no; let them die with their mind at piece. At least until their homes or cars fall on them, but at least they didn’t have to worry for 3 years. This is why they say “live your life to the fullest” cause you never know when god is going to pull that trigger and if you don’t believe in god well you never know when you going to drop dead basically. Also just to add, don’t believe that I’m some kind of defender of the government cause I’m so far from anything like that, even more so when it has to do with the united states but when you disagree, you disagree so tell me what you agree with.
